Top Mets News

  • Mets' Tyler Jay: Contract selected

    Rotowire

The Mets selected Jay's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.

The left-hander was called up for his MLB debut in April but was removed from the 40-man roster after making just two appearances. Jay has a 2.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB over 36 innings at Triple-A this season and will now receive another look in the majors.

  • Mets' Danny Young: Sent to Triple-A

    Rotowire

The Mets optioned Young to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.

The left-hander was recalled by the Mets last weekend and made four appearances during the brief stint in the majors, allowing six runs on six hits with a 4:2 K:BB over 3.1 innings. Young has a 5.11 ERA across 13 outings with the big club this year.

  • Astros turn to bullpen in quest for series win after comeback vs. Mets

    Stats

  • Mets' Pete Alonso: Rare steal in loss

    Rotowire

Alonso went 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and one stolen base in Saturday's 9-6 loss to the Astros.

Alonso's steal was just his second of the year, as speed is rarely a factor in his play. He's got plenty of reason to feel optimistic with his performance lately -- the first baseman has gone 15-for-46 (.326) over his last 12 contests while adding 14 RBI in that span. Overall, Alonso is at a .244/.330/.472 slash line with 17 home runs, 46 RBI, 46 runs scored and 19 doubles through 80 games.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Two doubles in three-hit effort

    Rotowire

Iglesias went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored in Saturday's 9-6 loss to the Astros.

Iglesias has gone 7-for-17 over his last 10 contests, recording a plate appearance in just seven of those games. Over 43 plate appearances this year, he's batting .425 with seven RBI, six runs scored, one stolen base and four doubles, but the typically light-hitting infielder has yet to hit a home run. Iglesias' best path to playing time is at second base, where he's currently on the short side of a platoon with Jeff McNeil, who is hitting just .221 on the year and .211 in June.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Reaches 10-homer mark

    Rotowire

Vientos went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 9-6 loss to the Astros.

Vientos has flexed his power recently with five homers over his last nine games. In that span, he's batting .324 (12-for-37) with seven RBI and 10 runs scored. The third baseman is at a .297/.355/.578 slash line with 10 long balls, 23 RBI, 24 runs scored, no stolen bases and six doubles through 141 plate appearances this year. As long as the 24-year-old continues to hit well, he should have no trouble holding onto a starting job at the hot corner.

  • Mets' Tylor Megill: Heading to Triple-A after rough start

    Rotowire

The Mets are expected to option Megill to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Megill started Saturday's 9-6 loss to Houston, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts across 5.1 innings in a no-decision. As the Mets maneuver around Edwin Diaz's 10-game suspension, they're expected to call up a reliever to fill Megill's spot and eat innings in the coming days before having Christian Scott fill Megill's regular rotation slot. By rule, Megill will have to stay at Triple-A for 15 days, which means he likely won't be back on the active roster until after the All-Star break.

  • Bregman delivers big hit in 8th as surging Astros rally from 5 runs down to beat Mets 9-6

    Stats

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Idle Saturday

    Rotowire

McNeil isn't in the Mets' lineup for Saturday's game against Houston.

McNeil will get a day off Saturday after going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer during Friday's win. Jose Iglesias will start at second base instead and bat eighth.

  • Astros look to resume climb against hot Mets

    Stats

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Swipes 14th bag

    Rotowire

Lindor went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 7-2 win over the Astros.

The veteran shortstop has flipped the switch in the second half of June. Lindor has racked up three straight multi-hit performances, and over the last 11 contests he's batting a scorching .370 (17-for-46) with two of his 13 homers and four of his 14 steals on the season along with seven doubles, eight RBI and 12 runs.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Ends power drought Friday

    Rotowire

McNeil went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 7-2 win over the Astros.

The second baseman took Ronel Blanco deep in the sixth inning, the third of three Mets homers on the night. It was McNeil's first long ball since May 22, snapping a 23-game power outage, and the performance was his first three-hit game since May 7. He'll need more than one good game to earn the trust of fantasy GMs again, however -- on the season, McNeil is slashing a feeble .212/.283/.312 with four home runs, four steals, 19 RBI and 31 runs in 72 contests.

  • Mets' Jose Quintana: Fans seven in no-decision

    Rotowire

Quintana came away with a no-decision in Friday's 7-2 win over the Astros, giving up two runs on six hits and three walks over four-plus innings. He struck out seven.

The southpaw tossed an inefficient 93 pitches (54 strikes) before getting the hook after allowing a leadoff single to Yordan Alvarez in the fifth inning. Quintana has failed to pitch more than four innings in three of his last five outings, but he hasn't given up more than three runs in eight straight, posting a 3.70 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 37:11 K:BB in 41.1 innings over that stretch. He'll look to give the Mets more length in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come on the road next week against the Nationals.

    Stats

  • Mets' Drew Smith: Tommy John surgery likely

    Rotowire

Smith has been diagnosed with a significant UCL tear in his right elbow and is likely to undergo Tommy John surgery, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Smith is waiting on a second opinion before anything is decided, but it appears the writing is on the wall. It's a blow to the Mets and also poor timing for Smith, who is set to become a free agent this offseason. Given that it would be his second Tommy John surgery, Smith could be sidelined until 2026.

  • Sizzling Mets, Astros square off with winning record within reach

    Stats

  • Mets' Jesus Baez: Bumped up to High-A

    Rotowire

Baez was promoted from Single-A St. Lucie to High-A Brooklyn on Monday.

The 19-year-old infielder hit .262 with 10 home runs, eight steals and a 16.2 percent strikeout rate in 64 games at Single-A. Despite the stolen bases on his ledger, Baez has a thick 5-foot-10 frame and is a below-average runner. He figures to end up at third base long term, where his impressive raw power will be his calling card.
